1700-tals textil : Anders Berchs samling i Nordiska museet

The gallery presents unique art pieces by emerging designers that are hard to see anywhere else. The exhibits of the fiber artwork change seasonally. The watercolor rendering of Gunnar Asplund’s Textile display building, Hall 26, captures the spirit of excitement about the Stockholm Exhibition itself and about the kinds of modern textiles that the exhibition’s organizers wanted to showcase. The building was clearly modernist: white and planar, with large windows. Founded in 1951 by visionary designer Armi Ratia and her husband Viljo, Marimekko not only sparked an international revolution in post-WWII pattern and textile production, but also inspired a new philosophy based on the power of design in everyday life. A recreation in partnership with the Borås School of Weaving and the Durán Textile company was commissioned in around 2009, and is exhibited at the Historical Museum (Historiska Museet) in Stockholm, while the original is still on display in Uppsala.
